A new US policy for dealing with population growth?

US teacher exiled to Canada after sexual abuse conviction

Now, we in Canada make it a point to not mimic American traditions whenever possible. For example, we don’t have a Statue of Liberty. But if we did, I’m pretty sure that it wouldn’t read "Give us your poor, your tired, your convicted sex offenders…"

And what are we to make of the fact that a US judge thinks that time spent as a free man in Canada is the equivalent of a prison sentence in the US?

All I can say is that if a Canadian judge made the same sentence but with a Candian citizen being exiled to the US for statutory rape, we wouldn’t take him. And not due to the fact that he is Canadian….
Interesting price the judge is putting on Canada though. Since this is in Buffalo, one would think that he had some reasonable understanding of Canada. I can see someone from Florida thinking that having to spend 3 years in Canada (with its winters anyway) as being hellish, but someone from Buffalo?
