How to kill an afternoon

Do a google street map walking tour of Old Québec.

You could do worse than start at the building where my wife works:

It's been said before, and I'll say it again: Quebec City is spectacular.

It is a great city – i’ve always preferred it to Montreal. Couldn’t live there though – don’t parler the francais too well.

Neither did I when I moved here. I had what I remembered from high school (and that wasn’t much for those of us from Orillia, Ontario), and not much else.

So did you do your job talk in English or French? Just curious.
Yes, Quebec City is spectacular. The summers are particularly pleasant.
The Chic Choc mountains in the Gaspé are also quite beautiful. Some of the most gorgeous rivers on the planet flow off the Chic Choc mountains. Psst. Don’t tell anyone. 😉

A big difference between Montreal and Quebec City is this: you can live your whole life in Montreal and always speak English, if you really want to, but that’s impossible in Quebec City.

westslope: My job talk was the last time I spoke in English to my colleagues. Immersion really is a most effective technique for learning a language!
Jack: Yes – I’m sure that if I had landed in Montreal, my French would be worse than it is now. And as my wife would attest, that’s saying something.
